Households in the Essendon area are using less water than at the same time last year the latest figures reveal.
Member for Essendon, Judy Maddigan said the latest figures revealing a drop in water use had helped Melbourne to avoid going onto harsher water restrictions.
"Essendon households are to be congratulated for their water savings efforts and are encouraged to keep up the good work," Mrs Maddigan said.
The Brumby Government's Target 155 campaign has urged Melbourne water users to keep their personal water use to below 155 litres per person per day.
Melbourne has stayed below the Target since it was introduced just over twelve months ago.
"In the year since the Target 155 campaign started, Melbourne has saved over 16 billion litres of water which meant we didn't have to go to harsher water restrictions.
"This is a fantastic effort and we need to keep up these water saving behaviours. "Mrs Maddigan said.
