Two Government schools in Essendon will share in $15 million of Brumby Government grants to upgrade their technical equipment, Judy Maddigan, Member for Essendon said today.
Moonee Ponds Central School and Strathmore Secondary College will receive funding through the $50 million Tech Wings investment in the 2007-08 Budget.
"Moonee Ponds Central will receive $20,000, and Strathmore Secondary College will receive $49,807." Mrs Maddigan said.
"The grants will enable the schools to provide state-of-the-art technical and vocational education and training," she said.
"The development of a skilled workforce relies on investment in vocational and technical education, and the Brumby Government encourages young people to achieve their full potential." Mrs Maddigan said.
Schools can purchase, hire, refurbish or maintain technical equipment used in Technology Studies, Vocational and Education Training in Schools (VET) or similar programs.
This includes items such as computer aided drafting and manufacturing equipment and software, machining equipment, digital lathes and automotive and engineering equipment.
This new funding will help achieve the Government's target of 90% of young people completing Year 12 or its equivalent by 2010.
