Strathmore Bowls Club, and City of Moonee Valley have received grants under the State Government's 2008-2009 Community Facility Funding Program - Minor Facilities and Planning Categories Judy Maddigan, Member for Essendon, announced today.
Strathmore Bowls Club will receive $60,000 towards the installation of a synthetic green and City of Moonee Valley will receive $20,000 for a feasibility study for a skate/BMX park.
"Strathmore Bowls club will now be able to make savings in two ways. There will be financial benefits because of lower upkeep costs, and of course a synthetic green does not need watering" Mrs Maddigan said.
"The younger members of our community would benefit greatly with a facility to enable them to enjoy unstructured activities such as skating or BMX riding" Mrs Maddigan said. "Moonee Valley Council now has an opportunity to investigate various possible projects."
The 2008-2009 Community Facility Funding Program - Minors Category provides grants of up to $60,000 to upgrade local sporting facilities across Victoria. Projects are funded in partnership with local councils, helping to deliver better sporting infrastructure for local communities.
"The Strathmore Bowling Club is a very hardworking club. It has great community support." Judy said in Parliament on 27/2/08 when she raised the matter with the Minister for Sport, Mr. Merlino.
