Judy Maddigan MLA for Essendon is pleased to advise that Moonee Valley Council Library Service will receive $15,751 from Premier's Reading Challenge Book Fund to support the 2009 campaign.
Victoria's public libraries have received $1 million to support the 2009 campaign, acknowledging the important role public libraries in Victoria play in supporting students undertaking the Premier's Reading Challenge.
"This year's Premier's Reading Challenge was enormously successful with more than 210,000 students from 1300 schools participating in the program. I was pleased to see so many schools in the local area taking part in the challenge" Mrs Maddigan said.
"The additional funding to libraries in Moonee Valley will encourage children to participate and continue participating in further Reading Challenges and to get involved in reading for lifelong learning". Mrs Maddigan said
Vision Australia will also receive $12,500 to ensure that vision impaired students are able to take part in the Premier's Reading Challenge.
