Judy Maddigan MP Member for Essendon has announced funding to drought proof Maribyrnong Park sporting facilities. The grant is part of the second round of the State Government's Drought Relief for Community Sport and Recreation Program.
Mrs Maddigan said $40,000 would go towards installing a mini treatment plant to provide treated water from a saline bore to the cricket and football grounds and bowling green.
Mrs Maddigan congratulated the Maribyrnong Park Bowling Club particularly in all the work it has undertaken to investigate the feasibility of this project.
"Due to the proximity of the Maribyrnong River, which is salt water at this location, the water has to be treated to make it suitable for football fields and bowling greens." Judy said.
"The Maribyrnong Park sports precinct is a great facility for Moonee Valley residents and it has contributed immensely to the proud sporting heritage of our local community."
"This project will ensure that Maribyrnong Park continues to provide facilities for local football, cricket and bowling clubs. It will also result in a long term reduction in water use at the park." Judy said.
