Projects aimed at encouraging a greater take up of cycling as a viable transport option in Moonee Valley are a key feature of the Brumby Governments new $115 million Victorian Cycling Strategy Judy Maddigan MLA for Essendon said today.
Mrs Maddigan said the cycling strategy outlined in the Government's plans seeks to further establish cycling as a viable, sustainable, affordable and safe transport option.
"The cycling strategy sets out a blueprint to increase cycling levels across Victoria by building a better bike network, developing a culture of cycling, separating cyclists and other road users where possible and better integrating cycling with public transport
"Included in projects outlined in the strategy is Mount Alexander Road on-road bicycle lanes - Mount Alexander Road/Shamrock St/Grice Crescent, Essendon at an estimated cost of $30,000.
"This/these important project[s] will significantly boost cycling infrastructure in local area and I expect it will further encourage our local community to use a bike to get around, whether it be for work or leisure."
